BLENDED LEARNING SCHEDULE FOR FALL 2020

We are starting the school year with a blended learning schedule. That means that your child will be in school some days and working from home some days. Threshold for Closing Schools - if the percent of positive tests in New York City is equal to or greater than 3% using a 7-day rolling average, schools will close.

NOTE: Students participating in blended learning will participate remotely whenever not in-person Monday-Friday.

Safety Requirements for Students, Teachers and Staff:

Picture
  • The DOE will has procured and distribute appropriate personal protective equipment for students and staff to use when inside all our sites at the John F. Kennedy Jr. School.
  • Our school community is ready to prepare our students for the “new normal” in school means practicing mask wearing and educating them on the importance of covering their face and washing/sanitizing their hands throughout the school day.
  • Throughout the school day, the number of students in a classroom has been reduced based on the size of space in order to encourage social distancing requirements.
  • Students and staff will need to thoroughly clean their hands as soon as possible upon entry to the school building. In addition, students will be expected to clean their hands repeatedly throughout the day, including but not limited to, between classes, before and after physical education, and before and after meals/snacks.

Safety Precautions Taken by the School:

Picture
  • To reduce the total number of the students in the school building, those who have opted into in-person learning have been divided into two groups: Group A and Group B.
  • Each classroom was provided a limit to the number of people allowed inside the space when accounting for social distancing.
  • These building capacity calculations allow for at least six feet of space to be maintained around each person in a classroom, while ensuring that there remains room for teachers and students to circulate.
  • Health surveys and temperature checks are conducted on those entering the school building.
  • Flow in hallway and stairways have been modified to reduce crowding in hallways and common areas or to keep students in smaller “bubble” for contact tracing
  • Daily cleanings are conducted by the custodial staff to disinfect all surfaces in all rooms throughout the school building
  • Custodian engineers will continue to comply with instructions on building ventilation and opening of windows. Custodian engineers will continue to purchase EPA-registered anti-viral products as described in the State DOH guidelines. All products are to be used according to the label instructions.
  • No face-mask, no problem. Those entering the building will be offered disposable PPE upon entering the school.

Special Situations:

  • Children of Essential Workers
    • Regional Enrichment Centers (RECs) were created to provide childcare for our city's essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. From March through the summer of 2020, RECs have served thousands of children across all five boroughs, with sites in almost every school district, as well as near transit and healthcare hubs. • Medically at-risk students or students with at-risk family members
    • Families have the option of choosing to have their child attend school solely through remote learning.
    • To request 100% Remote Learning, please complete the Learning Preference survey
  • Special Education Program Adaptations Document (Pad) For Blended And Remote Learning
    • The 2020-21 school year presents uncertain times for families of students with IEPs. To help you threw it, your teacher will be contacting you to complete the PAD. This document is designed to ensure that special education teachers and families share information with one another about how the student can best benefit from blended or fully remote learning.
